About the Author Steven Zwerling was born and raised in East Flatbush at a time when the Brooklyn Dodgers were still in residence. He went to PS 244, then Brooklyn Technical High School, and after that Columbia where he was an English major. After grad school he taught at Queens College and subsequently became an Assistant Dean at the City University of New York and Associate Dean at New York University. After his first book was published—Second-Best, a history of America’s community colleges—he was recruited by the Ford Foundation where he became Senior Director for Education, Media, Arts, and Culture. In recent years he has contributed to a number of blogs, including the Daily Kos and his own Behind the New York Times, where a number of the stories in Obama, Oy Vey first appeared.

No cliche to say I laughed and cried for real, reading these vivid, moment-to-moment dialogues. This son and mother are intimate but never sentimental, full of affection and curiosity as two people living fully in their times.

Feisty she sure is as are her friends. She and they have seen it all. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. It made me smile all day.
