In Detail
Blender is a powerful tool, stable, with an integral workflow that will allow you to understand your learning of 3D creation with serenity. Today, it is considered to be one of the most complete 3D packages on the market and it is free and open source! It is very efficient for many types of productions, such as 3D animated or live action films, architecture, research, or even game creation with its integrated game engine and its use of the Python language. Then, he studied 3D animation using CGTrainer. His interest in hacker culture and open source software led him to start working with Blender in 2012. Before this book, in 2014, he was a reviewer on Blender Cycles: Materials and Textures Cookbook by Enrico Valenza.
Pierre-Armand Nicq
Pierre-Armand Nicq started learning how to generate 3D images with Blender 2.4x at a young age. He is really passionate about all types of multimedia creation and uses Blender for projects such as 3D images/animations and games. He codes in different programming languages, such as C/C++, C#, AS3, JavaScript, and PHP, to create games and other kinds of programs. Pierre-Armand loves to share his knowledge. This is why he founded a French YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/ToutApprendre). It has more than 9,500 subscribers and 200 tutorials about 3D and programming. Currently, he is in his fifth and last year of school at IIM (Paris/La Defense). During his free time, he loves to play jazz music, participate in GameJams, and perform card tricks.

By eydelber This book clearly had a lot of effort put into it, but I found it difficult to follow. I've been a computer programmer for 15 years and I'm very savvy with computers, including programs like Gimp, although I had very little experience with 3D. Maybe I misunderstood some things, but it felt to me that the initial chapters (1 & 2) skipped over things too quickly. I pretty much gave up on page 25 because I couldn't reproduce the steps and no matter how many times I read the instructions, I simply didn't understand what I was supposed to do. I think the authors should have gotten a friend who has little 3D experience but has a lot of computer experience and watched the person go through the book or provide very detailed feedback. I'm sure what I missed is very basic, but I got stuck, frustrated, and gave up. I'm going to try another Blender book. Maybe it's just a limitation of a book format trying to teach 3D concepts, but I hope it's different. I'm sorry to give low feedback but it's my honest opinion and I hope you can put out a new edition with more details in the first few chapters.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. not for beginners By Sonja 67 The first thing that happened when i opened the book it lost some pages, first time ever a book i owned was showing wear in such a short period. i was working through the first 50 pages today and have to say if i was not using 3D for years i would have had a terrible time with this book. It starts in the first chapter when you create a cylinder and in the current blender release you do not have an N Gon on top. So what to do as beginner you're just puzzled, and if you cannot achieve a result through whats written in the book your very much boned or have to search your own way which is - without any knowledge - utterly frustrating of course.Up to page 50 are at least 10 errors or steps left out that keep you wondering what you did wrong (one time b is select by box another time its ctrl b (which is wrong ofc), subdiv is applied to the mesh but no mentioning of it in the text, adding eyes to the head no mention of the direction which is ofc important later on..just some examples) . In many examples the text makes you believe you have the freedom to add some things here and there, and in the end if you were not ending up with the same face count on the pictures (which are hard to see because of the bad contrast) you cannot finish the chapter. On the bad side are also the pictures which are showing black lines on dark grey background, which makes it very hard to see whats actually on display. What i like about the book that it is jumping right into things very much in a learning by doing manner, also the explanation of the GUI was nicely done. Good as well is the choice of topics and the techniques covered. Anyways if i was a beginner, and i think the book was targeting to those, i honestly wouldn't had made it past the first 10 pages probably. This book is definitely not for beginners and stays below expectations in accuracy and clearness especially considering the price tag.

I've read a few other Blender books and they all incorporate similar features. But this book goes a step further and teaches you animation, modeling, rigging, texturing, sculpting, lighting, particles, fur, grass, trees, rocks, character design, compositing, shape keys for your rig, and all the rest of the tools blender offers in such a way that it also adds principles of good techniques. For instance, you'll learn traditional principles of animation, how to write a script for your fully animated scene, what story boarding is and how to create them, and using the video sequence editor to complete the full animation of your sequences. There is an amazing amount of great information within these pages. You will learn very useful and current techniques on how to create a 3D animated sequence from scratch. I wish I had this book a few years ago.I am a mobile game developer (and a bunch of other things), and I often need 3D objects for my games. This book has given me the knowledge that I was looking for to create assets for my games. Sure it doesn't go into things like exporting for games, but it does discuss things like creating a re-topology of a high resolution model and correct UV mapping. Tons of other things too that help me inadvertently. I still needed things like creating an animated short and still images, so this is perfect. This really is your one stop shop for using blender if you are new to the blender world, and even a good reference book if you are familiar with blender already. Sure there will be more advanced feature that you'll need to learn that this book does not have, but the fact that this book even goes into subsurface scattering (SSS) in advanced textures and how to create grass and fur, tells you that this is not just a simple beginner's book, you'll learn it all including adjusting the cycles renderer to make great films. I'm so glad I read this book, and so will you.
