About the Author Tracy Syrstad is a Microsoft Excel developer and author of eight Excel books. She has been helping people with Microsoft Office issues since 1997 when she discovered free online forums where anyone could ask and answer questions. Tracy discovered she enjoyed teaching others new skills, and when she began working as a developer, she was able to integrate the fun of teaching with one-on-one online desktop sharing sessions. Tracy lives on an acreage in eastern South Dakota with her husband, one dog, two cats, one horse (two soon), and a variety of wild foxes, squirrels, and rabbits.

From Luddite to Savvy Tech Head...well, sorta. :D By Pie Grrrl I came to the world of computers VERY late in life and I hate feeling like an idiot, knowing only how to Copy & Paste, compose and send emails and do a download of a photo. I have EXCEL installed on my laptop but knew NOTHING about it. Now, with this book, I can learn at my own pace and not feel like a Technological Dinosaur if I had enrolled in an evening class at the Y.I like how the book opens: It has a couple of sentences of "techno babble", to which the author basically says, "If you understand this sentence, then you've used a form of Excel before. If NOTHING made sense, then this book is for you." That's right at the level I'm at: like Jon Snow, "I know nothing." LOLThe author also suggests that you don't have to read the book from beginning to end, but can jump from chapter to chapter or as your needs arise. There are loads of drawings/photographs for those of us that are VISUAL LEARNERS vs. PRINT LEARNERS. Admittedly, it's been slow going for me because this is an entirely New World that I'm walking into but this book delivers faith and hope that I can bring my knowledge past the Stone Age. I've ordered and enjoyed the Windows 10 books which are all photo-driven, learning so much about that system. I'm looking forward to slowly peeling back the layers of Excel information in this book so that I can feel more confident about using my laptop to it's full ability.

By BarbaraLyn The first time I noticed about this book was the words “Content Update Program. FREE---See details inside”. All you needed to do was register your book with the web site provided to receive online updates when the book is revised. Since the book is a 1st edition, this is a nice plus.There are two ways to look things up in the book. The Contents at a Glance in the front of the book and the index in the back. With 17 chapters on how to use Excel, you should be up and running in no time.I love the way the explanations are done. They are set off in a colored box and numbered. The numbers correspond to the graphic which will be what you will see on your computer screen. Just read the explanation at a number, find the number on the graphic and you will be following along correctly.Words like workbook, sheets, formulas, data, cells, functions, charts and sparklines will become clear when you read this book. No longer will Excel be the master.If Excel is something you work with or want to work with, this book will make you the expert in no time."I received this product free in exchange for providing an unbiased review."
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Intutive and well laid out By Miss Barbara This is an excellent book on keeping you Excel skills honed. I spent most of my life in finance and Excel was part of my day to day existence. I was by no means an expert but would probably say that I had high - middle range skills. Since I retired I still use the spreadsheets for many aspects of my life and my old boss will sometimes still call with a question. I'd say that this book was written for someone like me - I'd not recommend it to a green beginner but if you have any familiarity with the basics of Excel this will help you expand and speed up your skills.The book is intuitively laid out and you certainly don't have to start at page one and go to the end. Use the Contents At A Glance Index and go to the section that you need. There are a lot of pictures that walk you through each step of any process. I think my favorite aspect was the "Go Further" inserts after a lesson. They point the student in the right direction to proceed beyond the confines of the completed lesson. I found this very helpful.This is a good book, well written and laid out, for most intermediate and mid-range users of Excel 2016.
