I was prepared to be disappointed when it arrived because it was so thin. I was instead very pleased. The book is a walkthrough of a little RESTful web services application automating a hotel booking agency. The code examples downloadable from PACKT Published have all worked without any bugs and I have found only one insignificant typo in the book. Highly recommend.

Explanations need to be more thorough though, found some gaps which I hadto fill in myself so I had to take off one star. Had to do some research to get the examples to work when using other databaseslike Oracle.

Overall the book strikes a great balance in both it’s length and content. The problem with many tutorials/books is that they either give you so little information that in real “enterprise” situations you are completely lost or the information provided is so in depth you both can’t understand and lose interest.Topics covered are diverse and each is gently introduced and implemented in the demo hotel property management system.Testing, performance, build tools, security, scaling and client applications are all covered. This will not leave you an expert in all these areas but gives a great overview and I have found myself coming back to the book as a reference.

By Sierra Klein Willows Weeping is Ella Reigns’ enthralling memoir about surviving foster care, a mentally ill mother, an abusive father, adultery, rape, abortion and a controlling marriage which lead to divorce. It was quite a powerful story all together. To me, I think authors who write a true story about their life are strong and extremely brave to let the world know about their personal struggles in life. You would think as you read, how horrible these things are but the author comes out stronger and nothing is stopping her from bettering her own life! This is a very emotionally raw story, but one that is well worth reading. The author’s writing skills are amazing and the story she tells is unlike any other!

I've also newly updated the final chapter, reflecting the decisions my husband and I came to in the year since we attended the retreat. This book will be helpful to anyone thinking about attending a Vipassana retreat, and will give insight to what to expect: what was hard and what was not; the benefits and challenges of spending nine days in voluntary silence; and a summary of the experience, especially from the perspective of a practicing Christian. It was an amazing event, rich beyond what I expected, and so much of the philosophy of living aligned with my values and Christian beliefs. Meditation is a good discipline to bring to my daily routine, and has helped me build a stronger faith because I have learned to give regular time to quietness each day. Meditation isn't a magic formula to make life perfect, but rather a tool to help us understand: this too shall pass.

I had hoped to find out what to expect, but instead got to read about the anguish of a dissolving marriage. The submissive & subservient attitude of the author, made her not only unlikeable, but down right repulsive to me.After 33 years of marriage & 2 kids, the husband (Rob) is thinking about divorce. We are assured that nothing momentous has actually happened, but just that Rob wants to ‘’move on’’. Rob doesn’t have the balls to make a break, so goes to a retreat to think about it, and the author follows.The amount of grovelling actually made me nauseous. The daughter of missionaries, this woman is the epitome of the self-sacrificing saint, and hints of her passive aggressive nature came out in the writing.I found myself reading on, just to find out if Rob actually gets the balls to make the break or understand the madness of what he is doing.But, I was not to find out. After 10 days of longing glances and self-flagellation, the author and her husband leave separately, and even in the update a few months later, he STILL hasn’t made a decision.At least, not a decision that the author shares. This is the definition of passive aggressive behaviour.Waste of time & money

Clayton A wonderful, practical introduction to the contemplative art of silence and meditation as the author invites us to walk with her along the quiet paths of the retreat center. Sheila sparingly and tactfully weaves her current personal and painful struggle into the soft yet challenging paths of her 10 day experience. The reader will find this work not only a blessing to ponder but a quick and easy read as well. It reminded me of a lazy river ride where one floats at a gentle, conversational pace free to pause and “meditate,” or continue as you are exposed to helpful tools that aid in a spiritually centered life. A Five Star read!

By ramsay Social media has become a global trend and is fast expanding in throughout the world. Almost everybody is already connected to social media in many forms and types. Great advice for social media marketing By Sanjin In business world of today it is impossible to be successful if you don't use social media and all of the benefits they provide. OK, it is not impossible, but it is very, very hard.This book offers some great advice and strategies to begin with online marketing and putting your business on the social media map. It is divided by the social networks and there are specific tips and strategies for each one – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. It really shows that the author knows what he's talking about, there is no fluff or generic filler.The book helped me, I now know where and how to start and it can do the same for you too. The world of social media marketing can be intimidating in the sheer size and scope of it, but this book does a great job in boiling it down to essentials. Recommended.

4 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A "must have" for those new to Office 2016 By John H. Macdonald I thought that moving to Windows 10 would be a leap, but with the aid of an excellent Dummies book I was in good shape. On the other hand, Going to Office 2016 from my "pre-ribbon" Office was like climbing Everest. I guess I had fought the no-ribbon battle for so long I had refused to look at the advantages off the "new" (for me) format. It took this book, and the world having moved on, to help me to not only accept the ribbon, but see it's advantages. I recommend this book to fellow hold-outs (if any survive) as a fine way to gradually understand the structure and application of Office 2016.

About the Author  

Henry R. Cheeseman is professor emeritus of the Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, California.

 

Professor Cheeseman earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Marquette University, both a master’s in business administration (MBA) and a master’s in business taxation (MBT) from the University of Southern California, a juris doctor (JD) degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law, a master’s degree with an emphasis on law and economics from the University of Chicago, and a master’s in law (LLM) degree in financial institutions law from Boston University.

 

Professor Cheeseman was director of the Legal Studies in Business Program at the University of Southern California. Professor Cheeseman taught business law, legal environment, and ethics courses in both the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and undergraduate programs of the Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California. At the MBA level, he developed and taught courses on corporate governance, securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy law. At the undergraduate level, he taught courses on business law, the legal environment of business, ethics, business organizations, cyber law, and intellectual property.

 

Professor Cheeseman received the Golden Apple Teaching Award on many occasions by being voted by the students as the best professor at the Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California. He was named a fellow of the Center for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Southern California by the dean of the Marshall School of Business. The USC’s Torch and Tassel Chapter of the Mortar Board, a national senior honor society, tapped Professor Cheeseman for recognition of his leadership, commitment, and excellence in teaching.

 

Professor Cheeseman writes leading business law and legal environment textbooks that are published by Pearson Education, Inc. These include Business Law: Legal Environment, Online Commerce, Business Ethics, and International Issues; Contemporary Business Law; and The Legal Environment of Business and Online Commerce. Professor Cheeseman has also co- authored a textbook entitled Contemporary Employment Law.

 

Professor Cheeseman is an avid traveler and amateur photographer. The interior photographs for this book were taken by Professor Cheeseman.

Cheeseman does a great job of explaining complicated concepts of law to people who aren't part of the law profession. He never tries to confuse you or use a bunch of unexplained terms, he goes out of his way to really break down topics and discuss them. HIGHLY recommended for any Business Law course.

About the Author LITTLE SPELLS is Jennifer K. Sweeney's third book of poetry. She has grown to be one of my favourite authors. I heard about her via school, but I now read her work purely for my own personal leisure. I find her writing provokes my own writer's spirit and makes me remember why I have come to care for literature so dearly.

Sweeney's Little Spells is a collection bound by fierce yearning: the longing for a child to come to her. This great desire, at once potent and mythic, is set against all that cannot be controlled and must simply be borne, be witnessed, be accurately observed and mourned. Sweeney transforms this ache into incantations, unforgettable little spells--sometimes mysterious, sometimes plainspoken--that invoke the language of both the natural and the unseen world to witness, to lament, to call forth the reluctant beloved: "Make of my body a home, I was/an hourglass of salt,/a tarot of bone. Lay me down/under Perseids, let the stars/hold up the night." I am grateful for these poems.

A review of Little Spells By Karen Craigo Lots of poets have written about the liminal space between life and death—how consciousness, rooted in the body, becomes spirit. But few have addressed the other end, wherein spirit is first made flesh through pregnancy and birth.Jennifer K. Sweeney offers a corrective in Little Spells (Kalamazoo: New Issues Press, 2015), a gorgeous collection centered in the pain of trying to conceive.Maybe this topic has been largely ignored because it’s an experience rooted in the feminine. Although a couple tackles the problem of infertility together, it is the female body where the new flesh is to be housed and where the weight of the issue is measured. Perhaps we lump fertility together with the menstrual cycle—an even more pervasive reality for women, but one addressed mostly occasionally and obliquely, seldom head-on and at length.Although I have not struggled with fertility, I know many women who have, and they report that the treatment process can be painful, humiliating, and soul crushing. Surely such a harrowing and all-encompassing experience is worth poetic treatment. And Sweeney demonstrates in Little Spells that this territory can sustain an entire book—all ninety-five pages of one.This was a book that resisted abandonment. Something important was happening, and I couldn’t leave it until I saw it through to its fruition. Sweeney offers so many different views of her theme, from the very first poem, “Abandoning the Hives”:Wake up, the currents of bees have fledthis hour of seeddark imaginings in their week—unsweet feverless drone.Comb the hillside for sleepwalkersdrowsy on some chemical spool orbeg the swarm box to dance.This initial fourteen-line poem, ending with its haunting row of empty jars, prefigures the crown of sonnets, “Still Life With Egg,” that comprises the center of the book. Not really a "method" or "system" By Olga Z While I appreciate the brevity of this book v. other potty training books out there (which is actually why I bought it, along with the words "early pottying" in the title, since I'm trying to train my 18th-month old), this is more of a collection of basic tips that can be found online. There's no specific "method" for potty training, specifically younger children, and while the information is nice to know for someone researching how to potty train their toddlers, this book leaves more to be desired. The editing of this book is also quite poor and the constant spelling errors and grammatical mistakes are quite distracting.

Gray One read of lines like the following and it may be easy to understand why this poet’s voice deserves a wider audiences:“Pirouetting in slow motion across the pavement through the sunlit vapor burying themselves within the dripping skeletons of dead drifts”Such beautiful words and more are ensconced within the pages of this delicate material. The author’s grasp of proper poetic mechanics infused within a melancholic and sweeping work has been a pleasure to peruse. It all starts with Hanson’s Bridge; a free verse poem that imagines a static landscape leading up to a moment of vibrant color in the mind of the reader. The trajectory of the poem toward that point allows for many side excursions where the reader is submerged in a veritable centrifuge of imagery. This, fellow readers, is what poetry is about.From Hanson’s bridge, the poem Summer Evening Distant Fire was a traditional style poem with a meter reminiscent of Byronic pieces. There wasn’t even one deviation from the pitch, enthralling the reader with rich text and imagination. From there, Gray Wet Sunday was a sweet closure, leaving the reader immersed in the depths of its gratifying, sense-inducing touch.After reading this beautiful compilation I shortly found another from the author entitled Poems from the Lonely Kid. I look forward to delving into it now that I know the quality of the author’s work. I’m sure whoever downloads this book will, without a doubt, feel the same way.

Thoroughly Enjoyed This Journey By ohtheprofanity Author Mary Czerwinski says in the intro of this book, "I may have sewn the words together ... but your perception is what makes them come to life." I read her poems with that mindset. What happened was that I was taken to places in my memory I hadn't visited in ages, sometimes forgotten long ago. Her words brought back vivid sensations of life experiences, strong as if she had seen the visualization I had conjured in my own head from reading her words and *then* strewn the words together, not the other way around. However you interpret Mary's words, you will undoubtedly get something out of them and have an adventure of your own.

However I do read poetry during the times I'm alone and need to go to another place in my mind. Mary Czerwinski's book of poetry titled Elements Of Change paints many and varied pictures of places and people. The poems also manufacture feelings that associate you to the subject of each piece. I of course have my favorites. The poems are so varied that one or more will become a different favorite for anyone. A must read for anyone's bookshelf

Mary Czerwinski, according to her introduction, has released this collection of her words that spans the last 15 years. She notes that this book came about because of a fog being lifted and ushering in a new era of creativity. This may be why this collection resonates with me so strongly. This book came along just at the same time as I'm going through a similar phase in my personal life, so these poems about breaking through veils of perception and throwing caution to the wind in favor of being a true expression of self are timely for me. I think that anyone who is looking for brave inspiration to be who they really are and to reframe their experience of existence will be moved by these words.The book is separated into four sections; Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Each element contains a collection of poems that reflect the spirit of those elements. My favorites are La Femme, Exposed, and Web of Lives. These three come from the Earth and Fire sections and they are strong and wild like their Elements.Each of these poems gives the reader the understanding that what we are experiencing is an honest, vulnerable expression of someone's life. Though I can not say whether these are autobiographical, it is easy to believe that there is the truth of experience in each poem.Ms. Czerwinski has a gift for painting very clear pictures with her words. I found myself stopping during many of these poems just to fully visualize what I was reading. There are many great uses of word pictures and I loved some of the juxtopositions of images that caused me to stop and reflect.I recommend this collection to anyone who is ready for growth, going through change, or enjoys words as art. This a great set of moments to experience, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
