Expected more information on the new features of Office 2016, but came up empty. This is just an update of the Teach Yourself Visually Office 2013, and not very helpful. It explains all the basic operations of the software, but nothing intermediate or advanced.

A reasonably good overview with unreasonably small graphics and cheap construction By Kilgore Gagarin I'd give this book 4 out of 5 stars of the graphics were larger. Pretty much every page has two screen shots, all of which are about 4 x 3 inches in size (see photo). Consider the size of your own screen, throw in the dense information and choices on many Office screens, and this should probably be more properly titled: Teach Yourself VISUALLY if You Have Great Eyesight Office 2016.I also have to count off 1 star for beginning to fall apart immediately on first use. The binding is splitting on pages 226 (left) and 227 (right) and that was just the first time I opened the book. Super cheap construction.Content? The content is actually quite good (if you have excellent eyesight). It's definitely "broad and shallow" in coverage, rather than "narrow and deep" and serves quite well as a introduction and overview. You will be introduced to formulas in Excel, but just not in depth. You will be introduced to inserting videos in PowerPoint, but just not in depth. And so forth. Again, that's not a negative thing about this book, rather, it is designed to be what it is.Organization of the book is also pretty good. It starts with a good overview of the integrated product package and how it works. Then it is obviously divided up into appropriate sections for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Publisher, and OneNote. If your eyesight IS really good or you don't mind squinting at the graphics, a recommended purchase for the MS Office newbie.

Like all of the Teach Yourself Visually computer books, TEACH YOURSELF VISUALLY OFFICE 2016 is aimed at novice users. It uses exact screenshots to explain even the simplest procedures (e.g., "Create a New File", found in the opening overview section titled "Office Features").The screenshots explain every icon, button, tile, screen area, and procedure. They show exactly what the user should be seeing on the display, if the user correctly follows the detailed step-by-step written instructions for the procedure (e.g., "Change Word's Views"; "Create a Pivot Table" (in Excel); "Add and Edit Slide Text" (in PowerPoint); "Create a Database Based on a Template" (in Access); "Create a New Contact" (in Outlook); "Swap Pictures" (in Publisher); and "Navigate One Note"). The screenshots are overlaid with lettered and numbered circles that help the user shift back and forth between the written steps and the appropriate navigational buttons and menus shown in the screenshots.Although this is a technically sound book, and should be somewhat helpful to rank beginners, it barely scratches the surface of each Office 2016 application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, Publisher, One Note). Thus it is of quite limited value, even to novice Office 2016 users.I think that beginning Office 2016 users would be better off investing in the individual manuals for the applications they use most, as the manuals become available (e.g., Teach Yourself VISUALLY Word 2016 ). For this reason, I rate TEACH YOURSELF VISUALLY OFFICE 2016 at just 3 stars ("It's okay" on the official Amazon scale).
