The Foreigner's Wife by Elizabeth Martin, is an eye-opening insight into the world of dating and marriage for the woman of the Philippines. The author brings to light the financial and social trials that are involved in what is considered an interracial marriage. She begins the story by pointing out the death of a Filipino wife by her foreign husband, and also another story of the death of a husband by his Filipino wife and her boyfriend which was written in a newspaper article. In some cases due to financial desperation Filipino women are marrying foreign men of financial means in hopes to ease the burdens of their families. However, the price for these relationships are often too high whether it be paid with their life or as subjugated wives to domineering husband’s.The author, who is well educated herself is married to a British national and considers herself fortunate to have found someone who has mutual goals and respects her as an individual. I applaud Mrs. Martin for taking the brave step to put in writing the trials and displeasure that these woman often face in their society. I also celebrates her strength in supporting other women who choose this road irregardless of the path that brought them there.Based on the information provided about her father, it is clear where her strength comes from. This book was well written and an enjoyable read. I hope to continue reading future works of this author. I encourage you, the reader, to get a copy of this eye opening tale - you’ll be glad you did.

This book provides a firsthand look into the reality of interracial marriage from the perspective of two different cultures. The author presents some disturbing facts about Filipino women that marry foreign men to help them ease the financial burden to their families. The book is well written and anyone will be pleasantly surprised how well written this book really is. The Author has given good references and sources for her work and additional reading is always welcome to me when I’ve found a book that's this helpful. I highly recommend this book it will shed new insight into what I consider to be "Pay for Marriage."

Elizabeth Martin is the 10 th child of an illiterate farmer and fisherman on the island of Bohol in the Philippines. As a barefoot island girl she had an impossible dream to graduate from one of the University in Cebu City. She realized her dream and graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration. Eight years in field of private medicine followed. She has now returned to her roots in the Hills of Bohol with her husband British Author Terence Flannery. She applies her skills to Marketing and Management and focuses on her own writing. She wrote a very touching story which leaves you wanting more. I strongly recommend it. Wonderful!
