This book aims to show a way of effecting change in a structured, insightful way whilst keeping a sense of humour and motivation.As you would expect, the author takes the reader through the entire thought and implementation process for change – it is a lot more than just deciding to do B instead of A. Sacred cows or myths can be brushed aside in the process, leading to a more focussed, professional change process that will ideally be successfully implemented.A lot of research has contributed to the author’s expert commentary – over fifteen years of research collecting responses from over 750,000 individual respondents in change programmes affecting hundreds of big companies worldwide. Such body of research is even allowing predictions of change outcomes to be made by identifying the dynamics occurring within an organization. The research has identified 10 key drivers of performance in change initiatives and successful change depends on having as many of these KPIs in place as possible – the author guides you towards these areas and aims to help you achieve them.There is no shortage of books detailing change processes and general management strategies, yet this author has produced something that has carved out its own niche in this crowded sector, delivering a compelling, informative and engaging book in the process. The careful, open reader could even use the core information from this book to successfully implement change within their personal lives too with a modicum of modification.All in all, an interesting book that managed to make an often-dry subject come to life and engage the reader.

Before I comment on Warren Parry’s book I would like to give some personal context By Amazon Customer Before I comment on Warren Parry’s book I would like to give some personal context. Having spent 40 years in fiercely competitive Manufacturing Operations across the globe, I was always trying to improve quality, service and cost positions. So ‘change’ has always been the name of the game. In my earlier years, I had been the subject of all sorts of programs to build individual and team capability and was the subject of inevitable organisational restructures. Later, I was the one ensuring that others were participants in similar initiatives. So it was quite a revelation to read Big Change Best Path.On so many occasions ‘things’ were done just to ensure that we were 'doing something', rather than nothing at all. In the most part, what ever the circumstances, we fell back on the old ‘tried and true’ methods of increasing communication, team building, technical training and then the odd organisational change as well. Surveys were used to try to establish what was wrong and the status of our culture. The results of those surveys had little bearing on what formed our Change Strategy. When it came to change, our rule was to do something that was typically generic across the organisation. Although I was very much aware that people and organisations are very, very complex and dynamic, I always figured that without any other intrinsic information a ‘blanket’ approach would probably ‘catch all’.Before reading Warrens book I could never have imagined, or foreseen, that there would come a time when we could, by a series of simple, powerful on-line questions, quickly establish where an organisation was currently positioned on that never ending change path to improvement. I had always sensed that managing the path to improvement was complex. I see however, that Warrens statically validated model has created a 3rd Dimension to what I had always assumed was a 2D model. That he has been able to successfully distil the complexity of millions of data points created from his on-line questions into a resultant 3D map is quite breathtaking in its creative resultant simplicity. This simplicity exposes a real, usable diagnostic power in the form of statistically valid optional actions, depending on your current location on the map, to drive change leading to improvement.The book has also caused me to question some of my own long held beliefs after seeing his compelling evidence challenging many current Change Management paradigms. Warrens book has clearly shown that having the ability at any time, ‘to know where you are’, ‘know where you want to go’ and then having a suite of statistically validated Actions to get you there, provides the most powerful model for all those who are driving change. In a world that now demands continuous improvement, using change as the enabler, to survive and prosper, how timely is Big Change Best Path!Sam Pearson

Not since John Kotter’s seminal work on change management in the 90’s has there been anything that has added so much to our understanding of how to guide organizations through change. Warren Parry’s book combines the rigor of data analytics with insight based wisdom to deliver an evidence based methodology for facilitating large organizational transformations. 250 change initiatives from 150 corporations involving over 750,000 people has shed tons of much needed light on an otherwise elusive discipline. The book details an “organizational” GIS (Geographic Information System) approach to capturing, visualizing and prioritizing interventions to support successful change. Working with surveys and advanced quantitative techniques, a map of an organization’s change landscape emerges. This becomes the fabric for identifying hot spots that are supported by data that is refreshed as the change initiative gathers steam. The power of creating a map of the organizational terrain accelerates conversations and offers organizations opportunities to focus specific performance based, measurable activities to move key levers of change. Warren makes this an easy book to use and a pleasure to read. Rigor is not sacrificed and a data driven methodology is full of Warren’s wisdom, care and passion for a challenging topic.
