Raising the Shy Child is an excellent guide to help navigate your shy child through school By Jill Toth Christine Fonseca's book, Raising the Shy Child is an excellent guide to help navigate your shy child through school, social interactions and life! As the parent of a shy child and a professional in education, I find that Fonseca's perspective on shy children helps you to view them by their strengths rather than their weaknesses. Her practical tips, suggestions and worksheets help to guide you in determining how and when to intervene with your child. The book is easy to read, relate-able and most important, it helps you to realize that your child will find success in life.

General Tips & Strategies By Young Mensan BookParade Many children have difficulty making friends, speaking in front of their, or enjoying parties or large gatherings. Sometimes the problem is Social Anxiety, a condition in which children (or adults) fear doing these things because they believe that others will judge them harshly for their behavior or performance. Often the sufferer is not actually aware that this is their fear – they just know that they “can’t” do the things they want to do (or that adults want them to do) because it’s too overwhelming or scary. In Raising the Shy Child, Christine Fonseca offers several worksheets, checklists, and tips for helping children at home and at school with a variety of these problems. As a school psychologist, she has seen and helped many children, teachers, and parents with these types of fears and worries, as illustrated by stories of children she has worked with. She does a thorough job of describing various types of problems that can occur and how they impact family and school life. If you are seeking a greater understanding of the spectrum of shy behaviors this book will be informative and interesting. However, the tips and strategies may be less helpful because they are general rather than specific and assume that the reader has knowledge or skills that s/he may not have.

By twigzilla This book is ok and has some helpful information, but it's not really about the shy child. It focuses more on Social Anxiety, which I guess shyness is a form of, but not nearly as bad as most of the examples in the book.
