By Gulliver's Mom A truly candid and terrifying trip behind the doors of domestic violence. I couldn't get over the way Kitty portrays the matter-of-fact details of her daily life, as if it was completely normal to actually kneel at the feet of her husband every day. The beginning had me wanting to know more, the middle scared me to death, and the ending brought me to tears. I had to keep reminding myself this wasn't fiction, this was real, which made it all the more disturbing. The way events are portrayed in every scene first lull you into a sense of, "oh, she will be okay this time," and then the walls come crashing down - truly heart-breaking. In the end, the reason her journey begins eventually turns out to be the one thing that saves her - her precious little girl. But, there is a tremendous lesson here for everyone in this type of situation. Do whatever it takes to get out, before it's too late. You won't be disappointed by this story of a woman's courage, and how she survived to tell others how to do the same.

The amount of horror this woman experienced is beyond words but also her recollections and use of dialogue is mind blowing. I loved the visuals in the dialogue. The fact that she was brave enough to recount these horrors is so commendable. I am also writing my first Memoir and I have some horrific upcoming chapters ahead of me, to write. This book is giving me the inspiration and will to keep going in spite of the tough subjects I am going to be facing. Thank you KITTY!! You are awesome and such a survivor. I love survivor stories and Im sure this will help many other women who might be in similiar situations. Your writing is sublime.

This voice shows that women are often locked into these horrific abusive situations because they believe the situation is normal. They don't believe they can escape because they have been told they cannot. When others observe these situations and ignore them, that just confirms the belief that nobody cares. As the story ends, Kitty's words: "If you are living in fear, it is time to move," ring true. I am so glad she survived to tell the tale. And I am equally proud to know this so strong, vibrant woman!
