About the Author Jessica Jacobs grew up in Central Florida and has since lived in San Francisco and New York, with stints in Indiana and Arkansas along the way. Her work has appeared in Beloit Poetry Journal, Cave Wall, Iron Horse, The Missouri Review, Poet Lore, and Rattle, among other journals and anthologies. She holds a B.A. from Smith College and an M.F.A. from Purdue University. An avid long-distance runner, Jessica has worked as a rock climbing instructor, bartender, textbook Acquisitions Editor, Editor-in-Chief of Sycamore Review, and now as a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Hendrix College. She lives in Little Rock, AR with her wife, the poet Nickole Brown. Pelvis With Distance is her debut collection.

In Pelvis with Distance, she has rendered a moving portrait of Georgia O'Keefe, conjuring an artist in her most intimate moments. By illuminating O'Keefe's experiences with loneliness and grief and persistence and beauty, she taps into a more universal expression of these states. This book is about O'Keefe, but it is also about Jacobs, and about all of us.

Scott Brownlee Many an MFA student has dreamt up a "project"-based idea for a poetry collection only to see the initial momentum for the project wane or shift unexpectedly into another obsession or concern. In PELVIS WITH DISTANCE we see the thematically-linked poetry sequence brought to completion and operating at its finest: a blend of the personal (the poet's own life and imagination) and the historical (from the perspective of Georgia O'Keeffe and her NYC-based lover) that culminates in a sequence of poems that do as much to magnify the self as they do to question and compress it. If you have ever spent a significant amount of time in open, blank countryside and known the quiet and music such a contemplative space offers, you will immediately love this book. Even if you have not, you will still love it. Jacobs has an ear that keeps even the skeptical reading and an eye that matches O'Keeffe's in its deft artfulness.
