Marriage is good, sweet, satisfying, encouraging, strengthening, fulfilling, liberating, exploratory, sustaining, motivating, procreative and endowing. These are the reasons why marriage is God's choice gift to mankind. What then is the purpose of marriage? God made marriage for companionship, for sexual fulfillment and for procreation. As a result of these the family is set up in a loving, secure home where happy, disciplined and responsible children are nurtured. The family is very vital, being the structural and functional unit of the human society. Any damage or attack brought upon the family proves destabilizing and fatalistic to human society. Marriage has faced various challenges from time immemorial. These challenges are described as storms in this book. Storms could be terrifying, destabilizing and destructive. With the abiding presence of God in a couple's life and their mutual faith in God, they would face challenges together and victory is won over every storm or problem which confront their marriage. Storms arise through personal failures in life. They do arise from external sources such as human-made confrontations. Confrontations could be spiritual, physical, emotional, social, or physiological. In most cases spiritual problems or storms come from the devil, also called Satan. He is the main enemy of human beings. Satan attacks human minds through introduction of doubts, fears, anxieties, sicknesses, diseases and incitation of violence. When this is focused upon marriage or any human relationship, chaos or disaster occurs. The aim of the devil is to make each one of us to doubt God, disobey Him and thereby get exposed and live out of the will of God. This makes us vulnerable to attacks. Such attacks could destroy the marriage and also human lives. A man and his woman should confront any challenge jointly with the grace of God. When a couple know God and submit to Him, they receive wisdom and strength to overcome the enemy. When they resist Satan, he flees from them(James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8-9). In order to have a continual victory over the devil and evil thoughts, God must take central place in a person's life. This can happen when a person receives Jesus as Saviour and Lord. The Bible states that Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross, was buried, and rose again from the dead. If you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you shall be saved. Anyone who trusts in Jesus will not be put to shame. Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10: 9-13). My friend, if you have not received Jesus into your life, this is an opportune time to do so. Call upon him now. Invite him to come into your life to save you. The church and her leadership are facing similar challenges on the subject of marriage. Church, society and government are pulling in different directions on marriage. The modern-day youths are not sure what to do. The church is already tainted with worldly practice. If the church does not clean up herself, she would not be suitably positioned to help the society. That hindrance places the marriage institution at risk. Consequently, the family is at risk. Ultimately, human society is gravely at risk. The right husband or wife could only be found by being one yourself. No match is absolutely perfect. Get married to your friend; and you get placed on the pathway to a happy married life. Who is a friend? Someone who is trustworthy. Someone who can be relied upon in times of emergencies or troubles is a friend. Someone who would not mislead you is a friend. Someone who would never take advantage of you, nor cheat on you is a friend. As you and your spouse develop, each one of you watchfully helps his or her spouse to develop into the desired perfection. This growth and development is not achieved in one year, but over decades of mutual loving and selfless commitment. This advice in this book is practical, biblical and balanced.
