Complications: Abortion's Impact on Women, by Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, Prof. Ian Gentles, Elizabeth Ring-Cassidy

Review A lucidly written, extensively researched, evaluation of what is, technically, a simple procedure, with extensive consequences. A tour de force in an area plagued by misinformation, it should be read by policy makers, health care professionals and concerned persons of both genders. A landmark in the field. --Dr. Heather S. Morris, FRCOG, FRCS(C), LLD (HON)This book comes as an enormous relief to many of us who have been studying abortion for decades. Finally, there is a credible, evidence-based resource to inform medicine, psychology, and law. Moreover, the science is now available in a condensed and easily accessible form to women facing difficult pregnancies and coping with ill-effects of the procedure. --Priscilla K. Coleman, Ph.D. Bowling Green University

By Lorein NicGhobhainn While obviously, very controversial because of the topic, this book it one of the few out there that avoids the "political and religious" debate about abortion and focuses almost entirely on empirical evidence. In light of this, I would recommend the book to people on both sides of the debate. There are emotive touches at the end with the stories of the women who have had abortions, but this is kept to a minimum with greater focus being placed on the science. The chapter on Maternal Mortality Rates (MMR) I found fascinating, and it has challenged my thinking on the issue. The middle section on the physical complications by far had the most clinical evidence, and I was impressed by the sheer volume of medical research which was cited. This research, in particular, also raised substantial questions which have been ignored in the larger societal debate on the issue. I look forward to the next version.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Abortion risks and science at your fingertips By A Houghton An easy to read summary of abortion science where you can quickly find the vast array of complications you might be at risk of after abortion. It is humane and practical giving hope to any woman who regrets that it is too late to change what she has done.
