About the Author Dr. Ann Bucholtz has served as the Chief Medical Examiner for Nashville, Tennessee, and as an Associate Medical Examiner for Cochise, Pima, and Maricopa Counties, Arizona. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Don't Dismiss This Book Out-of-Hand: Excellent Intro to Computers for the Newbie & For Those Fearing the Leap to Windows 10 By M. Hallisey Don't let the part of the title that says "for Seniors" sway you away from this book. This is a GREAT book to introduce computers to anyone of any age (though, given how connected kids are from birth these days, one could argue it is - in fact - a book for those who grew up in the days before 24/7 connectedness; that is, "seniors").As I said, don't dismiss this book out-of-hand because not only is this an excellent resource for introducing computers in general, it also serves as an excellent resource for those who "fear" making the leap from Windows XP/Vista/7 to Windows 10.The book follows the standard "Dummies" 4-5 section approach. In this book the sections are "Get Going!," "Getting Things Done With Software," "Going Online," "Having Fun," and "Windows Toolkit." "Get Going!" deals with unpacking and setting up the computer. "Getting Things Done With Software" introduces the OS (Windows 10). "Going Online" is a primer for safe surfing. "Having Fun" discusses topics that should help the reader get to the point that working with a computer doesn't have to be all work. And "Windows Toolkit" discusses keeping the computer running safely and efficiently. What doesn't follow the "Dummies" approach is the lack of cartoons.I can think of a number of uses for this book: home, senior center, adult continuing ed class text, etc. I plan to use it in my day job as a mental health counselor. Like every other mental health counselor/social worker I work with many clients who find computers intimidating and burdensome: while the clients realize computers are necessary, they tend to find them overwhelming. As a result, something designed to make life "easier" winds up making life harder and add to client anxiety. I believe this book could be a great resource in helping my clients overcome a very steep learning and anxiety curve. As a result, I will be both recommending and lending out the book (that is, once I can pry it away from some of my family members!).Summary: 5 solid stars. Perfect resource for its intended audience. Well done!

The simple ethos is to give the reader a simple framework with layperson terms as a work through By Sussman .For those of you who are entering the information superhighway late in life and have children or grandchildren who know more about computers than you do, then welcome to the Computers for Seniors, by Dummies. This title is also a good designed for beginners of all ages, and for those of us who have not grown up in a computer world. This is a rather useful guide for the uninitiated. What is here is a guide that is set out in an understandable form, and where the language is not too technical in nature. The Dummies guide walks you through, using a gradually methodology through the fundamentals, and gets you started off on the right foot. A guide that tackles topics such as how to choose a Computer to suit your budget and more importantly your requirements; then how to differentiate between Computer Hardware and Software, Just how to install a Printer for Your Computer and a whole plethora of Computer related matters.As with all Dummies titles the simple ethos is to give the reader a simple framework with layperson terms to work through and making the text and the information as reader friendly as it can..

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Maybe Too Windows-centric and Too Technical For It's Target Audience. By barbre I read this book thinking how my mom would like it. She doesn't understand technology well, so I would have hoped this book would have provided a simple way to learn about her computer. I suppose it does this, but I think it gets too involved with the technical aspects and ends up being confusing. For example, the chapter on setting up an internet connect goes into detail about manually setting a connection up in Windows using Networking & Sharing dialogs. While this is good information, it is mostly irrelevant since Windows will manage connections automatically for the most part (thus my mom wouldn't need this information). Another issue I have is the dedication to Windows 10, and it's core applications such as the Edge browser. It mentions other browsers in passing but goes into detail with Edge. Of course the problem (as of this writing) is that the Edge browser is inferior to Chrome and Firefox. While this book is good for someone wanting some in depth Windows knowledge I think it might be too technical for the targeted market.

Patricia obtained a B.S. in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and continued Master’s Degree work in Learning Styles and Education. She taught music for 32 years in several schools and different levels in Washington County, Maryland. Patricia is married with three grown children and one granddaughter. Eliot Prize of the Poetry Book Society, founded in 1953 by T.S. Eliot and friends. I was so taken with Williams’ poems that I wondered just how good the winner was.So I read it: "Fire Songs: by David Harsent.It begins with what is undoubtedly a fire song – “Fire: a song for Mistress Askew” – a rather graphic account of a woman being burned at the stake, with enough Old English lines worked in to add an air of historic reality. (As it turns out, Mistress Anne Askew, a Protestant poet, was arrested several times, found guilty of heresy and, after torture in the Tower of London, burned at the stake in 1546. She was 26.You read Harsent’s poem, and you suffer alongside Mistress Askew. And it is a long poem.The poetry in this collection, his eleventh, is vivid, startling, and engaging. At some points he seems to be speaking a new kind of language, one filled with such sharp images that it almost leaves you breathless.This is poetry about England and its history, and poetry about England and its contemporary state – especially its state of the environment.“Bowland Beth” is a poem about a bird, a hen harrier, and was commissioned for The Sparrowhawk’s Lament: How British Breeding Birds of Prey Are Faring by David Cobham. (White Important Male Poet) By Edward Ferrari I’m not going to buy this book for myself simply because I can’t imagine myself, from this sample, enjoying it in any real way. That isn’t to say I wouldn’t enjoy it in lots of superficial, dead useless ways, I might—oh god—be interested to see, etc. And that’s it, isn’t it?
