How to Stop Arguing: Dealing with Stress, Anger, Rejection, Conflict, Fighting and Difficult People by Amber Rain is a great tool to help those in a bad situation. Also as it states in the disclaimer: you should adjust your use of the information and recommendations provided accordingly considering that no two situations are exactly alike. Also, I like the formatting of this book. Instead of chapters and long sections or paragraphs and prose, there is simply a list of tips. Though long, the list is quite effective. I am glad that this focuses on you as opposed to your argument partner. The tips can be used in practically every situation and during my reading I can recognize things I have done. The best tip of all is number forty nine in my opinion, just do not skip ahead to read it; all of the tips are really good.

These tips are really very good. I think the one that has helped me the most is the suggestion to make up my mind that no matter what, I am not going to argue. Before reading this Kindle book I didn't really understand how to have more self control. This book has provided specific direction on how I can quit arguing altogether. Although, I have still been fighting, I am not fighting as much as I was before reading this Kindle book. This means that I have made some progress, which the author says is a good thing. Amber says that change takes time and that I am not always going to do everything perfectly. I have learned how to forgive myself quickly when I do slip and argue. I have also been starting over with new beginnings through letting go of past events.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. a keeper and a loaner By Leah Chang Because I remembered noticing and loving the title of Sam Keen's "To A Dancing God" in a church library somewhere, and because of the brief description of these conversations between father and son, I had to read Prodigal Father /Wayward Son. John Bradshaw observed, "This universal and archetypal [conflict] is the inheritance of us all." We've all got parent stuff, there are countless unknown to us events and factors in their histories; just as no one instinctively knows how to make a marriage or any other relationship work out well, no one truly knows how to parent, even if they already have several kids.I've watched public television only very sporadically, doubtless missing out on a lot of cool exciting stuff, so I wasn't really familiar with Sam Keen. So surprised to discover he'd been a professor at The Louisville Seminary! How telling his description of the seminary professors way back then all dressed up in suits and ties (with nowhere to go), so incredibly business-financial sector establishment in style, yet called to articulate and convey the radically counter-cultural subversive gospel.Another reviewer described this father/son - parent/offspring conversation as timeless, and that it is. Both guys are intelligent, educated, excellent writers, and had reached the point they wanted to live reconciled and reconnected to each other, but even if someone's credentials aren't as strong as theirs, Sam's and Gifford's experience models "what might be possible" between any family members at almost any stage, and between friends who might have become estranged (though "estranged" isn't quite the accurate word to describe Father and Son Keen's situation). Look through the panoramas of your own relationships, and like the Keens, you well may note how small, fleeting events or incidents have assumed gigantically symbolic proportions in your overview of your lives together and apart from each other.Even if you don't buy the book, please watch the video on Gifford's amazon page. Prodigal Father, Wayward Son is a keeper for my bookshelves, and probably a loaner, too.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Keen Way of Reconciliation By Bror Erickson Sam and Gifford Keen let you inside a painful father son relationship as they seek healing. Along the way they offer hope for reconciliation between fathers and sons from all walks of life as they overcome their own demons.It is too often true that the sins of the fathers are visited upon the third and fourth generations. It seems like a never ending cycle, like father like son, and what do you do when you don’t get along with yourself? The cycle repeats. Fathers and sons alienate each other, while both of them seek the approval and love of the other. Complications of the modern world, the makings of which Sam lived through, and the consequences of which Gifford grew up with, only exacerbate the whole problem. Sam and Gifford are not alone in any of this, and many fathers and sons seeking reconciliation, forgiveness and understanding will find plenty of perspective and food for thought as they read through the stories and thoughts shared in this book.Adding to the charm of this father/son story is the great care and talent that went into the writing. They are both gifted wordsmiths, and know how to keep a reader engaged.

By Peggy I think the folks who are able to relate to poor or at best challenging parental relationships will like this book and on some level may find hope for reconciliation.I did not read "Fire in the Belly," the first book by these authors since I didn't know it existed, although now I think I will. Although this is a specific father/son's struggle, it certainly could apply to any father/son, father/daughter or mother/son or mother/daughter's struggle for reconciliation. A feature I greatly enjoyed was having a quote under the title of each chapter, such as chapter 20's "The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but who conquers that fear." Nelson Mandela.The authors story is well written in a very candid style that may not find favor with those that are offended by profanity, mushroom use for a psychedelic experience, or other illegal drug use. I'm not condoning those behaviors, just accepting that was an important part of their story's journey of enlightenment (and it was during the '60's-drugs, sex, and rock 'n' roll era). I was just a preschool child then, but I watched Woodstock when I was older and still am a great fan of that era's music. If you decide to read this book, I hope it helps you to improve your relationships, especially the one with yourself. Gif's greatest gift to himself was when he declared that he was his own man and free. "And that is not something one loses. Or forgets." Amen.

Following the stories of three women, we are allowed to explore cultural and societal expectations of these women while they find a way to be true to themselves. I found myself identifying with each of them in my own way.

The artful illustrations take center stage of this work, with the terse lessons of appreciation and gratitude abound the galley text.Just like how a collection of Norman Rockwell illustrations depict main street America in the mid twentieth century, Lara Aiken and Paul Schultz created a series of pictures taking readers from the exhalation of a Tibetan monk sitting on a cliff high in the Himalayas, all the way to a mid-western farmer’s front porch during a summer rainstorm. Another picture having the universe drawn within the outline of a silhouette of a young person also exemplifies the originality of this book using the visual powers of art to convey messaging. The bright, bold colors provide visual attraction while the story itself is engaging. We are reminded that everyone is important, has feelings, hopes, and dreams. There’s more to life than just another day.My mother read this book and had this to say, “A gorgeous book. Just what life is. Loved it.”My son read this book and had this to share, “Simple yet interesting story about not straying from your course and staying true to yourself. Another fascinating book By Teresa Kander This is the second book I've read by this author, and they are both unique in the field of children's picture books. One of my favorite things is that her books finish with the words "The Beginning," encouraging readers to go out and live the lessons learned in the books.The artwork in this book is very impressive. There are so many different situations depicted--from a monk in Tibet to a farmer in midwestern USA, and everything in between. The colors are bold and bright, drawing young children into the illustrations.Although this book is marketed to young children, adults will find food for thought within its covers as well.

Before my first breastfeeding journey By Monica Decardenas I thought this book was actually pretty helpful. Before my first breastfeeding journey, I was under the impression that nursing a baby would be easy. 'How hard could it be?' Unfortunately it was much more difficult than I imagined. I found that most breastfeeding books were lengthy and covered many topics, but not in detail. This is great if you are preparing for breastfeeding, but not exactly helpful once you already have a screaming newborn! This short book was specific to a problem and to the point. I have often felt the anxiety that comes with impatiently waiting for a let down reflex. It is quite stressful which only exacerbates the problem! I have used forms of meditation like the author mentioned and I found them to be helpful! I think this book can also be used as a tool for mothers who have/want to pump as some women find it even more difficult to have let downs when they are attached to a machine.

I let down my milk for my baby." This has put my mind at ease because I know no matter how much my baby is getting, at least he's getting!!!

By Kindle Customer I wish I had read "The Good Daughter" before my mother lost her independence and was placed in an assisted living center. Most of us, at some point in our lives will be faced with difficult choices caring for a loved one. In turn, we may become dependent on a loved one in our own lifetime.Connie Shoemaker's memoir is introspective and honest. She admits her personal challenges of frustration, anger and guilt mixed with compassion and love. Throughout her journey, she is able to maintain her sense of humor and to learn to cope and find solutions to help her parents. She gave her parents the most important final gift they could have had.

By selena I was very impressed w/ the candid honesty, specific details and complex family story that Connie Shoemaker shared about her intricate, difficult and loving role as caregiver for her mother. Her story resonates w/ all of us as our parents age. Helpful, painful, fascinating, and realistic are only a few of the adjectives that describe this relevant book which is a sensitive mother / daughter memoir. I doubt that I could maintain such an enriching personal and professional life as I simultaneously assisted a mother w/ such significant needs. More power to Connie!!!!

Shoemaker's vivid rendition of maddening challenges ends with many joy-filled, hard earned successes. Her writing carries me into her situations, some I too have encountered. Her theme is universal. We will all face declining years and many of us will or have cared for parents and other loved ones in their declining years. This uplifting book could appeal to any questioning person or groups of people wanting to know about end of life perspectives and situations.

Java and I have never gotten along, so I figured maybe I could learn OOP through picking up Swift because like everyone else, I have got a great app idea. While I was browsing Amazon's catalog, I wasn't sure which book to buy since there are so many and quite a few have good reviews. I previewed several books and discovered that this was right for me.I picked this book for a few reasons:1. This book covers new information for Swift 2. From my understanding, Apple announced updates to the Swift language a while ago and so if I'm going to spend time learning Swift, I want to make sure I'm learning the most up-to-date material.2. It truly is for beginners! As soon as I received the book, I read through several chapters and really liked the explanation of the application development process as well as how it eases the user into installing/using xcode and Swift. I think it is important for beginner books to describe the context around coding otherwise newbies might get overwhelmed if they are thrown head first into code.3. Not a flop. When I bought the book, there was only one review which happened to be a 3-star one. The rating wasn't at all related to the quality of the book or content but due to some issues with Amazon, so I took a leap of faith and made the purchase.So far I'm satisfied with my purchase. I feel confident that if I keep reading the book, I'll gain the knowledge and confidence to start coding in Swift and make the apps I want. I will continue to update this review.

It highlights fundamentals that will guide the target audience on their journey with Swift and iOS development. For example, right off the bat the authors cover how to think like a developer. The way these essential concepts are highlighted pave the way for the reader and will aid them through the rest of the book, as well as whatever follows with Swift and iOS. Throughout the book insights are integrated into the content that expand the readers perspective - for example, at the end of the section illustrating one of the samples is a helpful tidbit about accessing Xcode's documentation feature. Any student who takes the time to read this book will benefit and their time invested will pay off manifold. I heartily recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn Swift and iOS development!

I question the purpose of the quotes from differnt parents as they gave few tips and to my Norwegian eyes were a skewed sample of parentstyle. The parentstyle in focus was very "free spirited" and mainly from stay at home moms. There were some good play tips in the book. However there were almost nothing on behavior. The bit about food was very focused on allergies and intolorance for differnt foods. The sleep bit gave few tips other than give love and understanding... Sorry for the messy review, it is written on my mobilephone.

By Elizabeth Semons As a fellow adoptee this survival guide once again opened my eyes as to how many different experiences and journeys there is in adoption. Although all of the writers have their own unique and different stories the emotions/pain and in many cases (not all) trauma felt by adoption are very similar and I myself could relate to each journey. I felt that I knew each contributor personally after reading each piece. The stories are of raw emotions that capture each contributors personal adoption story. Each contributor is able to reach deep inside and express themselves through their memories and experience of adoption. You will feel what it was to be in their shoes if only for a few intense and emotional moments. Each one starts with memories of being a young adoptee to the present. As you will see the memories and feelings are vivid. The contributors are able to tell their stories as if they are talking about something which just happened yesterday. This only proves the real impact of adoption. There is so much one can learn by taking in these individual stories. Listening to the voices of those who have suffered but also survived such great loss can only be a guide. It should be looked at as a positive tool on how adoption really feels and what can be done to help change it for the better. This is a must read for anybody who may adopt, has adopted, has been adopted or makes decisions about adoption. Adoption needs change on so many different levels. I have a feeling stories like these will change the way non-adopted people view adoption. If the reader is able to place themselves in the writers shoes I believe they will learn many things that they never once even thought about or things that they themselves could not possibly imagine. I believe if this was to happen adoptees would no longer hear comments like, "You are lucky you were adopted." Adoption is not and has never been that simplistic. As a matter of fact adoption is very complex and misunderstood. This anthology is adopted voices speaking from the heart. "It is time to listen." "We live and have lived adoption." Parts of it made me laugh, parts of it made me cry. It is a well written and honest look at the journey many of us walk and the feelings we deal with on a daily basis ---- but rarely openly talk about. It's a book that everyone -- especially NON-adoptees should read to get a better understanding of those of us denied basic information about who we are. I highly recommend this book and thank all of the contributors and editor Lynn Grubb for the hours of heart and soul put into this endeavor. Excellent. By Angela Many of the entries felt like a foreshadowing of what my adopted children’s search for roots may look like: visceral, relentless, and at times overwhelming for them. Within these stories, a still, small voice prompted me to support steadfastly their life-long adjustment to adoption. Additionally, this text brought me new understanding of the strong adoptee community and the value of their voices in righting some of the injustices in our society. Any member of a loving society who reads this collection of stories and is not touched to their core should do some serious soul-searching. I was prepared to be disappointed when it arrived because it was so thin. I was instead very pleased. The book is a walkthrough of a little RESTful web services application automating a hotel booking agency. The code examples downloadable from PACKT Published have all worked without any bugs and I have found only one insignificant typo in the book. Highly recommend.

Explanations need to be more thorough though, found some gaps which I hadto fill in myself so I had to take off one star. Had to do some research to get the examples to work when using other databaseslike Oracle.

Overall the book strikes a great balance in both it’s length and content. The problem with many tutorials/books is that they either give you so little information that in real “enterprise” situations you are completely lost or the information provided is so in depth you both can’t understand and lose interest.Topics covered are diverse and each is gently introduced and implemented in the demo hotel property management system.Testing, performance, build tools, security, scaling and client applications are all covered. This will not leave you an expert in all these areas but gives a great overview and I have found myself coming back to the book as a reference.
