9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. stop arguing and find release By Texanrebel Short and concise, but great advice. The author seems to know what she is talking about. Love that it isn't just about how to stop arguing, but also about how to let go of that anger.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Stopped Arguing Pointlessly By AElizabeth Stop Arguing. Now. How to Stop Arguing: Dealing with Stress, Anger, Rejection, Conflict, Fighting and Difficult People by Amber Rain is a great tool to help those in a bad situation. Also as it states in the disclaimer: you should adjust your use of the information and recommendations provided accordingly considering that no two situations are exactly alike. Also, I like the formatting of this book. Instead of chapters and long sections or paragraphs and prose, there is simply a list of tips. Though long, the list is quite effective. I am glad that this focuses on you as opposed to your argument partner. The tips can be used in practically every situation and during my reading I can recognize things I have done. The best tip of all is number forty nine in my opinion, just do not skip ahead to read it; all of the tips are really good.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. This Kindle Book Has Helped Me Quit Arguing So Much By Nancy Dutton Easy to follow advice on how to quit fighting and arguing. These tips are really very good. I think the one that has helped me the most is the suggestion to make up my mind that no matter what, I am not going to argue. Before reading this Kindle book I didn't really understand how to have more self control. This book has provided specific direction on how I can quit arguing altogether. Although, I have still been fighting, I am not fighting as much as I was before reading this Kindle book. This means that I have made some progress, which the author says is a good thing. Amber says that change takes time and that I am not always going to do everything perfectly. I have learned how to forgive myself quickly when I do slip and argue. I have also been starting over with new beginnings through letting go of past events.

Ebook PDF Prodigal Father Wayward Son: A Roadmap to Reconciliation, by Sam Keen, Gifford Keen

Written by best selling author Sam Keen and his son Gifford, Prodigal Father, Wayward Son is a warm and engaging book on masculinity, and a compelling and dynamic invitation for readers to recall the pivotal memories and conflicts that define their own father-and-son relationships. Filled with personal tales of their own struggles and breakthroughs, in this moving account of alienation, repentance, and forgiveness, readers are taught how best to confront and make peace with longstanding enmity and misunderstanding by telling their long-held, but often unexamined, myths and stories. Similar to the father-central memoirs of Pat Conroy and Andre Dubus III, Sam and Gif Keen provide guidance and encouragement to those looking for positive role models, and explores new ways to move beyond old wounds.Prodigal Father, Wayward Son contains exceptionally evocative and entertaining storytelling: tales of marriage and divorce, misadventure and drugs, rebellion, abandonment, renewal, and ultimately new-millennium reconciliation. Sam, a stubborn, traditional academic, and Gif, a free-thinking, introspective surfer, repeatedly clash, make up, evolve, adapt, and rediscover their love as they collectively realize the acutely current message of Prodigal Father, Wayward Son. It marks the culmination of an exceptional writing career.

Prodigal Father Wayward Son: A Roadmap to Reconciliation, by Sam Keen, Gifford Keen

Review A cathartic memoir of forgiveness, healing, and freedom, a metamorphosis reaching back to Sam’s father and forward to Gif’s son. Although focusing on the particular struggle of men, the Keen’s sentiments hold relevance for mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters as well, shedding light on actions and attitudes with the potential to bring families in all walks of life closer together. Foreword ReviewsMore than a memoir, Sam and Gifford write in alternating series with one purpose in mind: to find the true reconciliation. In a day and age when divorce and remarriage have become the norm, so has family dysfunction. Until now, we have been forced to live with the myths we have created about our parents, about our children, and about ourselves. The recipe for healing broken relationships costs less than any of us expected. San Francisco Book ReviewThe brutal candor of these exchanges between an estranged father and son caught in a vicious cycle of competition and incomprehension can be hard to take. Stick with it. Both have hurt each other so much that reconciliation comes hard. But what they prove in the end is that the statute of limitations can run out on the wrong we do to one another. Every father and son, mother and daughter, parent and child should exult in the Keens’ discovery that it is never too late to start over. —Bill MoyersA courageous look at father-and-son struggles over the years. This universal and archetypal [conflict] is the inheritance of us all. I identified with Sam, and found insights about my son through Gifford’s sharing. Their method of reconciliation is a ‘gift’ for us all. Here is a raw human story that has a joyful ending. —John Bradshaw, author of Post-Romantic Stress Disorder: What to Do When the Honeymoon Is OverIn this fine book, honest and eloquent pain spills across every page. This open-hearted sharing is in the service of great teachings. Many fathers and sons will read this and see a path forward. —Mary Pipher, author of The Green BoatProdigal Father, Wayward Son is the most heart-opening book I have ever read. On the surface, it is about virtually every dad and son. Beneath the surface, it opened my heart to further removing the walls between myself and those I yearn to more deeply love. Its fierce honesty and loving grace lead the way. Of Sam Keen’s many terrific books, this is my vote for his best. —Warren Farrell, author of Father and Child ReunionMoving and inspiring; this groundbreaking book is the story of father and son overcoming the broken bond of trust and love. Sam Keen, a most trusted voice in our culture for 50 years, and his son Gifford, equally strong and compelling, show a way through struggle and radical honesty that allows fathers and sons to overcome long-festering estrangement and become the best of friends. —Linda Carroll, author of Love CyclesSam and Gifford Keen embody the redemptive power of honest storytelling in their extraordinarily revealing book Prodigal Father, Wayward Son. This father / son relationship is transformed by telling many stories beyond the damaging ones that have kept them apart. The message of this book moves beyond fathers and sons to any intimate relationship that is controlled by a handful of old myths. —Herbert Anderson, coauthor of Mighty Stories, Dangerous Rituals and coauthor (with Karen Speerstra) of The Divine Art of DyingT.S. Eliot writes that ‘We shall not cease from exploration, and at the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time.’ Gifford and Sam Keen’s book Prodigal Father, Wayward Son lays out in raw, intensely honest form, through a sharing of letters, the story of their reconciliation. To be a witness to their own ‘knowing’ that place of forgiveness, acceptance, and love gives hope that it is never too late to make up and (re)birth a parent / child relationship. —Lee Rush, trainer and consultant, International Institute for Restorative Practices and member, International Mankind ProjectA very brave book about healing. It movingly portrays the very words and process of reconciliation between a father and a son: The courageous voicing and healing of old wounds and deep shame. Underneath that, they discover the deeper love that was always there, but thwarted. You can’t read this book without wishing it could happen in your own family. Of course it can. May this book inspire healing and the rediscovery of love in our families, communities, and the world. We sure need it. —Glen Schneider, author of Ten Breaths to Happiness

From the Back Cover This long awaited sequel to Fire in the Belly is a crowning achievement of a remarkable literary career and an impressive debut of a young writer that proves the adage “the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.A moving account of repentance, forgiveness and reconciliation that sets it apart from any other books in this genre, Prodigal Father Wayward Son provides guidance and inspiration to those looking for positive role models and teaches new ways to move beyond old wounds by offering concrete methods to overcome long standing enmities and misunderstanding.“In this fine book, honest and eloquent pain spills across every page. Many father and sons will read this and see a path forward.” — Mary Pipher, author of The Green Boat“Prodigal Father, Wayward Son is the most heart-opening book I have ever read. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. a keeper and a loaner By Leah Chang Because I remembered noticing and loving the title of Sam Keen's "To A Dancing God" in a church library somewhere, and because of the brief description of these conversations between father and son, I had to read Prodigal Father /Wayward Son. John Bradshaw observed, "This universal and archetypal [conflict] is the inheritance of us all." We've all got parent stuff, there are countless unknown to us events and factors in their histories; just as no one instinctively knows how to make a marriage or any other relationship work out well, no one truly knows how to parent, even if they already have several kids.I've watched public television only very sporadically, doubtless missing out on a lot of cool exciting stuff, so I wasn't really familiar with Sam Keen. So surprised to discover he'd been a professor at The Louisville Seminary! How telling his description of the seminary professors way back then all dressed up in suits and ties (with nowhere to go), so incredibly business-financial sector establishment in style, yet called to articulate and convey the radically counter-cultural subversive gospel.Another reviewer described this father/son - parent/offspring conversation as timeless, and that it is. Both guys are intelligent, educated, excellent writers, and had reached the point they wanted to live reconciled and reconnected to each other, but even if someone's credentials aren't as strong as theirs, Sam's and Gifford's experience models "what might be possible" between any family members at almost any stage, and between friends who might have become estranged (though "estranged" isn't quite the accurate word to describe Father and Son Keen's situation). Look through the panoramas of your own relationships, and like the Keens, you well may note how small, fleeting events or incidents have assumed gigantically symbolic proportions in your overview of your lives together and apart from each other.Even if you don't buy the book, please watch the video on Gifford's amazon page. Prodigal Father, Wayward Son is a keeper for my bookshelves, and probably a loaner, too.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Keen Way of Reconciliation By Bror Erickson Sam and Gifford Keen let you inside a painful father son relationship as they seek healing. Along the way they offer hope for reconciliation between fathers and sons from all walks of life as they overcome their own demons. It is too often true that the sins of the fathers are visited upon the third and fourth generations. It seems like a never ending cycle, like father like son, and what do you do when you don’t get along with yourself? The cycle repeats. Fathers and sons alienate each other, while both of them seek the approval and love of the other. Complications of the modern world, the makings of which Sam lived through, and the consequences of which Gifford grew up with, only exacerbate the whole problem. Sam and Gifford are not alone in any of this, and many fathers and sons seeking reconciliation, forgiveness and understanding will find plenty of perspective and food for thought as they read through the stories and thoughts shared in this book.Adding to the charm of this father/son story is the great care and talent that went into the writing. They are both gifted wordsmiths, and know how to keep a reader engaged.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ... think the folks who are able to relate to poor or at best challenging parental relationships will like this ... By Peggy I think the folks who are able to relate to poor or at best challenging parental relationships will like this book and on some level may find hope for reconciliation.I did not read "Fire in the Belly," the first book by these authors since I didn't know it existed, although now I think I will. Although this is a specific father/son's struggle, it certainly could apply to any father/son, father/daughter or mother/son or mother/daughter's struggle for reconciliation. A feature I greatly enjoyed was having a quote under the title of each chapter, such as chapter 20's "The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but who conquers that fear." Nelson Mandela. The authors story is well written in a very candid style that may not find favor with those that are offended by profanity, mushroom use for a psychedelic experience, or other illegal drug use. I'm not condoning those behaviors, just accepting that was an important part of their story's journey of enlightenment (and it was during the '60's-drugs, sex, and rock 'n' roll era). I was just a preschool child then, but I watched Woodstock when I was older and still am a great fan of that era's music. If you decide to read this book, I hope it helps you to improve your relationships, especially the one with yourself. Gif's greatest gift to himself was when he declared that he was his own man and free. "And that is not something one loses. Or forgets." Amen.

Naati Charami is a fine cultural and traditional blend alongside a contemporary and modern India, spanning from the days of new independence to the turn of the millennium. The story follows its 3 protagonists through conflicts between love and duty; idealism and reality; and values and individuality. Swati is an epitome of love and adherence to dharma fortifies her path. Her internal struggle in line with social situations and unwanted surprises that resulted as the byproduct of women's education and emancipation are beautifully observed. Staunch traditions and destiny plunge Lakshmi Prasanna into the center-court of life. Her determination and strength hold her stead through trials and triumphs and her brilliance is dazzled with unparalleled success. Charmi becomes a pawn in the balance of the old and the new. While she is the center of her parents' universe and her every desire is lovingly catered to, her life takes on an unexpected turn when she is denied freedom in her most important decision yet.

Following the stories of three women, we are allowed to explore cultural and societal expectations of these women while they find a way to be true to themselves. I found myself identifying with each of them in my own way.

Pacific Book Review By Nicole Sorkin Ending with “The beginning,” a technique consistent with Lisa McDonald’s children’s books, her crafted Reimburse the Universe plays in the theatre of your mind in a very unique way. The artful illustrations take center stage of this work, with the terse lessons of appreciation and gratitude abound the galley text.Just like how a collection of Norman Rockwell illustrations depict main street America in the mid twentieth century, Lara Aiken and Paul Schultz created a series of pictures taking readers from the exhalation of a Tibetan monk sitting on a cliff high in the Himalayas, all the way to a mid-western farmer’s front porch during a summer rainstorm. Another picture having the universe drawn within the outline of a silhouette of a young person also exemplifies the originality of this book using the visual powers of art to convey messaging. The bright, bold colors provide visual attraction while the story itself is engaging. Reimburse the Universe is without any main character, thus bringing each and every reader into the book by making the theme the character, not a factious person. My favorite message and image is the one with a young boy shoulder deep into a field of sunflowers, with a smile on his face and arms in the air, enjoying the warmth of the sun upon his face. Who cannot relate to such a splendid moment? Another touching scene was a parent and child going to a soup kitchen for a free meal provided by a charity indicating “we are all in this together, and all connected.”Lisa McDonald has a forward in this book by Janet Bray Attwood, an accomplished author in her own realm. Janet, at first, though she was too busy with her own hectic schedule to write an opening message for anyone, but after reading this short children’s book took to heart the message of the book to slow down her own busy life and “Reimburse the Universe.”We each eventually in life learn this very humble and important lesson, and the earlier in life we do so the better the rest of our life will be – hence a children’s book with such a lovely format is an ideal synergy of creativity. Reimburse the Universe encourages positive feelings. It reinforces just how thankful we are to enjoy each day, and not take it for granted and teaches awareness of our surroundings. This book is perfect for any youngster’s birthday gift, or for any home, collection, or library.

By laurathomas61 This book was such a delightful read. Each message is displayed through wonderful illustrations on glossy pages along with thought provoking insight into how to be true to yourself and reminding you to treat others as you would want to be treated. Not just for young children, these lessons are ones we should all heed and live by. We are reminded that everyone is important, has feelings, hopes, and dreams. There’s more to life than just another day.My mother read this book and had this to say, “A gorgeous book. Just what life is. Loved it.”My son read this book and had this to share, “Simple yet interesting story about not straying from your course and staying true to yourself. Regardless of how you’re born, you’re somebody.”Three generations loved this book and I’m sure you will too. A great book to read to kids from the time they can understand. One you’ll want to read to them often.I received this book for my honest review.

Another fascinating book By Teresa Kander This is the second book I've read by this author, and they are both unique in the field of children's picture books. One of my favorite things is that her books finish with the words "The Beginning," encouraging readers to go out and live the lessons learned in the books. The artwork in this book is very impressive. There are so many different situations depicted--from a monk in Tibet to a farmer in midwestern USA, and everything in between. The colors are bold and bright, drawing young children into the illustrations.Although this book is marketed to young children, adults will find food for thought within its covers as well.
